| HOW TO SELECT YOUR BOSTON TERRIER, PART 4 |

DIET Most breeders will give the new owner a written record that details the amount and kind of food a puppy has been eating. Follow these recommendations exactly at least for the first month or two after the puppy comes to live with you. The instructions should indicate the number of times a day your puppy has been fed and the kind of vitamin supplementation he has been receiving, if any. If you follow the breeder's instructions it will greatly reduce the chance of your Boston Terrier puppy's suffering from an upset stomach and diarrhea. The breeder's diet sheet should project the increases and changes in food that will be necessary as your puppy grows from week to week. If the breeder does not provide you with this information, ask your veterinarian for suggestions. If and when you decide to change the type or brand of dog food you are giving your Boston Terrier, do so gradually, mixing the old food with the new until the substitution is completed. HEALTH GUARANTEE Any reputable breeder will be more than willing to supply a written agreement that the puppy you choose to take home must be able to pass a veterinarian's examination. Furthermore, the puppy should be guaranteed against the development of any hereditary problems. You should choose a veterinarian before deciding on your Boston Terrier and arrange an appointment with him right after you have picked up your puppy from the breeder and before you take the puppy home. If this is not possible, you should not delay the procedure any longer than 24 hours after the puppy leaves the breeder's residence. |
